Built Through Experience
1999 — Early Foundations
Before Union Press existed, founder Zach Wilson operated a neighborhood skateboard shop in Downtown Kansas City during the early development of what would later become the Crossroads Arts District. During this time, he became deeply involved in apparel, branding, and print production while also helping lead grassroots efforts to support and develop local skateparks throughout the Kansas City area.
2002 — The Beginning of Union Press
After becoming frustrated with the experience of sourcing apparel and printing through larger production shops, Zach purchased printing equipment and opened a warehouse space in Kansas City’s historic West Bottoms district.
What began as a small operation quickly grew through strong relationships within the local business, art, music, and skateboarding communities. Early demand for apparel and print production helped lay the foundation for what would eventually become Union Press.
2014 — A New Chapter
In 2014, Union Press relocated into a dedicated production facility in Kansas City, Kansas, marking a major shift toward large-scale apparel and print production.
With the addition of automatic printing equipment and expanded production capabilities, the company began focusing heavily on operational growth, production efficiency, and long-term client partnerships.
2015 — Becoming a Union Shop
In 2015, Union Press officially joined District Council 3 and became a union print shop. Today, the company proudly operates with a fully union-staffed production team.
2020 — Expanded Capacity
Union Press invested heavily in new equipment and updated production technology, significantly expanding capacity and production capabilities.
During the challenges of COVID-19, the company launched no-cost fundraising stores to help support local businesses and organizations while continuing to keep production moving during an uncertain time.
2023 — Best of Kansas City
After years of nominations, Union Press was recognized as Kansas City’s Best Screen Printing company in 2023.
2026 — Expansion Continues
Union Press is currently entering its next phase of growth with the expansion into a new 10,000-square-foot production facility designed to support larger-scale projects, expanded capabilities, and continued long-term growth.
